Position: Tradesman

Reports To: Foreman and/or Superintendent

Summary of Position: In addition to the requirements, expectations and responsibilities listed in the Position Description for “Laborer” perform those duties as required for the day to day construction and erection of concrete formwork projects including but not limited to residential, commercial, industrial and multi-level structures. Performs both rough and finish carpentry, involving cutting, shaping, leveling and fastening together pieces of wood and other construction materials, such as plywood and insulation.

Education/Experience Requirements:

Qualified applicants will be able to recognize and erect different types of formwork safely and have a working understanding of the processes for placing concrete in formwork.

General Requirements:

Perform a variety of tasks under the supervision of a superintendent or foreman in order to achieve profitable and quality oriented projects associated with the concrete industry and more specifically described below. Must be able to pass drug and alcohol screening.

Expectations and Responsibilities:

1. Has mandatory carpentry tools at all times on the job.

2. Meet commercial vehicle driver’s license, CDL, and medical card statutory requirements to operate and transport tools and equipment to and from project sites.

3. Anticipates and reports shortages of forming and other materials to the project foreman or superintendent.

4. Is able to set forms in a professional and safe manner on a schedule set by the project foreman or superintendent.

5. Is able to use instruments to shoot grades and lines as required.

6. Reviews blueprints, shop drawings, and project plans detailing the dimensions of the project and materials used. Can read and understand plans with minimum assistance.

7. Constructs and installs temporary structures and supports, including scaffolds for workers to stand on, forms for concrete foundations, timber structures and pre-engineered structural members to support hand-set and pre-engineered forming systems.

8. Plans how the work will be done using measuring and marking equipment.

9. Cuts and shapes building materials using hand and power tools.

10. Fastens work together using nails, screws, glue and staples and checks work using levels, plumb bobs, rulers and squares.

11. Is able to train and supervise laborers and less experienced carpenters.

12. Assures all tools and equipment are clean, in good working order and are properly maintained. In this context proper maintenance includes preventative maintenance, i.e., fluid levels, grease, air pressure, etc.

13. Reports any defects in tools and equipment.

14. Determines tool and equipment project needs and returns tools and equipment when they are no longer needed and/or when it is no longer cost effective to have such tools and equipment designated for the project.

15. Recognizes job-site hazards, has an understanding of the proper use of personal protection equipment (PPE), and is able to properly identify the need for such equipment.

16. Properly complete all necessary paperwork to communicate equipment maintenance needs and inventory material use forms.

17. Demonstrates a good work attitude and encourages working safely effectively at all times.

18. Must be able to comprehend and implement proper industry and jobsite safety rules and regulations.
